Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Tuya Smart, Smart Life, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and other compatibility references describe product capabilities where listed. Actual performance depends on network quality, gateway availability, region settings, firmware, wiring, and site conditions. Please read the requirements below and confirm compatibility before you buy.

App ecosystem

The Tuya Smart / Smart Life app is required

Homesense devices are built on the Tuya platform. To set up, control, and automate them you will need a smartphone or tablet with the free Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, published by Tuya and available on the App Store and Google Play.

  • A Tuya Smart or Smart Life account is needed for device pairing, scenes, schedules, and remote access.
  • The two apps share the same Tuya cloud, so most Homesense devices work with either one. Use a single account for the whole home so your devices, rooms, and automations stay together.
  • An active internet connection is needed for remote control, voice assistants, and over-the-air firmware updates.
Network requirements

Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and gateways

Homesense supplies both Wi-Fi and Zigbee devices. Each technology has its own connection requirements, and choosing the right mix is part of a properly planned smart home.

  • Wi-Fi devices connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. They are not compatible with 5GHz-only networks, so your router must broadcast a 2.4GHz band for pairing and operation.
  • Zigbee devices — such as many sensors and battery-powered controls — do not join Wi-Fi directly. They require a compatible Homesense Zigbee gateway or hub, which connects to your network and bridges the Zigbee devices to the app.
  • Strong, stable signal coverage at each device location improves reliability. Thick walls, distance, and electrical interference can affect range for both Wi-Fi and Zigbee.
Voice assistants

Amazon Alexa and Google Home compatibility

Compatible Homesense devices can be controlled by voice through Amazon Alexa and Google Home once linked to your Tuya Smart or Smart Life account.

  • Available voice features — such as on/off, dimming, scenes, and status — depend on the third-party assistant platform and how it supports each device type.
  • Some advanced functions available inside the Tuya app may not be exposed through a voice assistant.
  • Voice control requires the relevant Alexa or Google Home account, app, and a working internet connection.
Electrical requirements

Wiring and installation

Smart switches, dimmers, curtain and shutter controls, sockets, thermostats, and circuit breakers connect to your electrical system and must be installed correctly and safely.

  • Some smart switches and dimmers require a neutral wire at the wall box to function. Older installations may not have a neutral available at every point, so check your wiring before purchase.
  • Load type and rating matter. Certain dimmers and controls are designed for specific lighting or appliance loads — confirm suitability for your fittings.
  • Professional installation is strongly recommended. Homesense provides professional installation, system integration, and custom programming, and installation workmanship carried out by Homesense is covered by us.
Third-party changes

Platforms and features may change

The Tuya Smart and Smart Life apps, the Tuya cloud, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home are operated by third parties. These providers may update, add, restrict, or discontinue features, integrations, or supported devices at their own discretion.

  • Such changes are outside Homesense’s control and may affect the availability of certain app or voice-assistant functions over time.
  • We recommend keeping your apps, firmware, and assistant software up to date to maintain the best compatibility and security.
  • References to third-party platforms do not imply any partnership, endorsement, or guarantee of uninterrupted service by those providers.

Verify compatibility first

Every property is different. Before purchasing, please confirm that the devices you are considering suit your network, wiring, fittings, and the assistants you intend to use.

  • Tell us your router’s bands, whether you need Zigbee coverage, and whether your switch locations have a neutral wire.
